This annoying warning message in Excel

Hi

Just installed new IBM server with Novell netware 6.7

After that my users gets the this annoying warning message in Excel...

The file (filename.xls) may have been changed by another user since
you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do?
• Save a copy
• Overwrite changes

Does anybody know if its a office 2007 problem or problem whith the server. I tried to change File Commit too On and File Caching to off, that did not help. Office is fully patched...

I have googled around and found this solution, but maybe there is an easier:

The file (filename.xls) may have been changed by another user since
you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do?
• Save a copy
• Overwrite changes

To get rid of this, follow these steps:

Go to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Excel\Options

Create new DWORD Value with the name QFE_Saskatchewan.

Set the value to 2 to have Excel always flush the file cache before obtaining the time stamp. This should resolve the problem most of the time. Or, type 1 to have Excel disable the time stamp check and suppress the dialog in every case.

Note Microsoft do not recommend disabling the time stamp check.

Re-start Excel to have the setting take effect for that user.

Please help

Load Monitor - Server Parameters - NCP. Set Level 2 OpLocks Enabled = Off, and Client File Caching Enabled = Off.

What version and SP of NetWare, client32 and Windows? Does the same thing happen if the Excel file is local? On a Windows server/file share?

Re: This annoying warning message in Excel

I'm getting the same issue, with Netware 6.5 SP5 on Windows 7 using Client "Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows IR3". We've implemented the MS fix "QFE_Saskatchewan" with a setting to 1 (a setting of 2 does not appears to work), see MS KB article You receive a "The file may have been changed" error message when you save a workbook to a network server in Excel 2002 or in Excel 2003.

This sounds like an issue with the client when it updates the file information, and wonder if Novell is reviewing the issue?

Re: This annoying warning message in Excel

You might try ensuring that File Caching is off on the server and the workstation.

Re: This annoying warning message in Excel

Are the Details and Preview panes turned on in your explorer dialog boxes?  If so, turn them off and see if that solves the problem.  Those tend to cause file locking problems with Office on Win7.
