Timesync and Netware 6.5 SP5

All of a sudden for reasons I don't know my NetWare 6.5 server has decided
to multiple times a day go out of timesync, I have it set as a single source
hitting Time.Nist.Gov for it's outside time source. About every hour or so
I get on the Timesync debug screen 192.43.244.18 NTP Source Not in sync
Discarding packet Unable to Communicate with server time.nist.gov It ends
up causing errors when I try to make changes in Console One to various
objects. Nothing serious but I'm concerned about a bigger problem I don't
see.

When I unload and reload timesync it starts working again for another hour
or so.

Any help is appreciated.,

Thanks

Re: Timesync and Netware 6.5 SP5

You might be running into just a timeout trying to communicate with that one server for some reason or another. To be safe, try adding at least one other time server to your configuration; in our case, we have our single reference contact three servers because every so often one of them won't be contactable. For ours, we use

140.221.9.6:123
130.126.24.44:123
130.126.24.24:123

Also, in the past, on one of our secondary servers, if I specified the port by having the :123 after the IP address, it wouldn't communicate with the single reference, so I had to do just the IP address alone. But in other cases, a server won't connect properly without the :123, so that's something else to try.
Hope that helps!

Re: Timesync and Netware 6.5 SP5

I use "us.pool.ntp.org" and it works fine. Missing a pool once in a while
is no big deal. many times a day could mean maybe the time server is too
busy. Thats why I use a pool server. I think its better, check it out at
http://www.pool.ntp.org/
