Unable to mirror

I've been upgrading/mirroring some of our NW6sp5 by:

1. first mirroring to a larger drive (2 volumes, sys and vol1)
2. removing original drive and letting larger one be boot drive
3. expanding pool on vol1 to max (leaves sys same at 4gb, vol1 now increased
to 70gb)
4. putting in 2nd new larger drive identical to first in make/model (DOS
partition identical too)

Using NSS menu, I can mirror sys partition by highliting then F3, however
when I try to do the same to the 1st or 2nd segment of vol1, get {0}-1
error. C1 gives same error. Remote Manager graphic for does not show up next
to partitions. This had been working for 9 servers we've done so far...but
the 10th and 11th kick back these errors. Why these last 2 giving me issues?

I have gone into C1 and played with size because of TID I found, but to no
avail, issue remains.

Have tried reinstalling Remote Manger, reapplying sp5 but graphic still does
not show to add free space on 2nd drive to either segment on 1st. Swapped
cables, SCS|I card, tried different drives(same make/model), chanting,
sacrificing goats and doing a rain dance to no avail.

Anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing this after step 4 -- that you're trying to mirror the 2 new
drives? Or are you still at step 1?

I regret that I can't offer much help -- I've done a lot of mirroring, but
not with multi-segment pools, and I don't recognize the error.

Re: Unable to mirror

You could try applying nw6nss5c and mm60sp5

Re: Unable to mirror

Yes trying to mirror both segments of vol1 to free space on 2nd drive with
more than enough space. Oddly we've not had any problem with the mentioned
procedure until these two and all machines are almost same...1-2 gb ram, 2
seagate scsi/lvd coming off an Adaptec 29160, Intel sys boards. Of course
every system has a unique "personality" I know. Later this year moving to
N7/Linux on a couple of new boxes with dual processors but until then
getting some fault tolerance is imperative besides the backup. Asking for
help before I go bald pulling my hair out.

Re: Unable to mirror

Thanks Andrew, will give that a try and let you know.

We have backups but a little mirroring makes me sleep better.

Re: Unable to mirror

Nope, didn't work. I'd believe a defective drive but in 2 different servers?
This is certainly an odd one...

Any suggestions are appreciated

Re: Unable to mirror

I've never had a problem like this before and I've done it many many times.
This is a first for me too. I keep asking myself, "what am I missing?"

Going in tomorrow early to try swapping drives one last time...

Re: Unable to mirror

Try doing:

nss /poolrebuild /purge

on the affected pool. Make sure you have tested backups first, just in case.

Re: Unable to mirror

Good idea, will try later.

When looking at remote mgr disk 1 part1 (sys) has a mirror graphic next to
it. Neither partition in the pool has the mirror graphic next to it. Is
this by design? an error?

Re: Unable to mirror

No good...

what is your opinion on this idea...

1. create partition with volume name "temp" on 2nd drive's remaining free
space
2. restore data to volume temp
3. remove 1st hdd, make 2nd boot drive, then rename temp to vol1
4. put original drive back in, after wiping drive clean, remirror volumes
sys and vol1

This way there are no pools with segments
