Unique Migration Question....

I am going to be migrating data FROM a MS domain to a OES11 cluster (for once it's not the other way)

The users in the MS Domain have accounts in the eDir, but it's not one to one. We used IDM to rename the users from their naming convention to our naming convention (JSmith to SmithJ01 or something similar) We do have the original user ID stored in eDir in the "personal title" field.

How do we move the user data (approx 1TB and 1200 users) automagically over to our OES cluster and into the user's home drives?. We have admin on both sides, but would rather not work this manually.

Like I said, an unique opportunity....

thanks!

I was going to say that just use the Wizard - BUT;

It seems that OES11 migration tools don't support Windows migrations
anymore?!?
http://www.novell.com/documentation/oes11/mig_tools_lx/data/bgr318y.html

As with OES2 SP3 Windows migrations are supported;
http://www.novell.com/documentation/oes2/mig_tools_lx/data/bfh18cc.html

So it looks like some JRB tools and scripts..

This sounds weird, should not be true..

That's exactly what I was thinking, there was something for this going back to the SCMT....and that was 12/13 yrs ago?

so how do we automate this with scripts etc? I'm brainstorming this.....

We have both ID's available in edir... we have the ability to login as admin on this old AD domain and the tree......

I think maybe Storage Manager (or the file system thingy suite)? may support Windows to OES file system migration?

I think you can download a 60-day eval or something.

Good chance SCMT will still work as it utilities TSA. In the OES1 SP2-OES2 GM/SP1 days, I was still using that SCMT tool successfully IIRC. I'd imagine it should still work going to OES11 (just not between OES servers - that's where miggui is really needed). I'd opt to try it on an XP SP3 workstation with the Novell 4.95 client installed.

Also curious, the MS environment is 2003, 2008 or...?

Cheers,
Willem

Yes it could,
I have used SCMT against OES2, just need to disable/workaround the
module version checks as it doesn't recognise the new versions at all.

Thanks for the info. Would you mind posting the workaround (so the OP can do it?)

I don't know what they are, else I'd do it.

Thanks again!

found it;

When the wizard does the pre-checks, it creates
\\sys\scu\installedsmsversion.txt file.

Delete that file on the background, then the wizard just says that it
cannot check versions and allows you to continue with process.
