VMware Tools install - Help

What am I missing?

Right clicked in the VI client, chose 'Install/Upgrade VMware tools', and isn't it supposed to mount a virtual CD or something?

I typed 'mount' and see nothing new. I also changed to the '/media' directory and all I see there is '/floppy'.

I'm missing something.....

Re: VMware Tools install - Help

Hi,
There is the steps ...

1) First you will need to install from Yast/Software Management/C+ Compiler pattern. (Select Pattern from the filter Menu)

2) Click "Install VMware Tools" from your VMs.

3) Go to the command line : mount /dev/cdrom /mnt

4) cd /mnt

Re: VMware Tools install - Help

5) rpm -ivh VMwarexxxxxxxx.xxxx.xxxx.rpm

6) umount /mnt

7) vwware-config-tools.pl

after this you need to answer all the questions one by one. Tips : All the defaults answers works fine.

Hope this will help you !

Only if the GUI is running, either manually or as part of runlevel 5.
Otherwise you have to manually mount the CD. I do the latter with all my
servers since they are in runlevel 3. Just the install/upgrade VMware
tools option, mount the CD, then I copy the vmware-tools RPM to a
directory on the server so that I don't have to remount that CD in the
future if I need the RPM again for some reason.
