Vista Client and Mapped Drives

Hi,

We've installed Novell Client for Vista on a couple of Vista test boxes. It
seems that the Novell Client for Vista doesn't perform as well as it's XP
counterpart. When clicking on a mapped drive, it seems to take an age to
actually open the drive but once you've done it once, all drives open really
quickly. If you leave it again for a while it seems to take an age again.

I can't really see any settings on the Client that would have an effect on
this sort of performance. Anyone got any ideas about how to speed this up?

Neil.

Re: Vista Client and Mapped Drives

Have the same issue - but most importantly, whenever I try to save something to a network drive, the Novell Vista client crashes my system.

It's a pretty blue, but other than that...

Another reason to abandon NetWare.

Re: Vista Client and Mapped Drives

Try disabling opportunistic locking on remote files. That improved
performance for me with Vista Enterprise + Novell Client for Vista on
mapped NCP drives.

I only disabled the oplocks for remote files and left the local file
oportunistic locking enabled.

You also may want to install the latest patch for the Windows for Vista
Client from Novell.

Re: Vista Client and Mapped Drives

This KB article doesn't cover Vista (see the Applies To section at the
bottom of the page). Does anyone know how to disabling opportunistic locking
on remote files in Vista?
