Vista Client and Volume Serial Number (s)

I have an application that uses volume serial numbers for security- a bad idea... I didn't write it. Novell's XP client returns a network number for the volume serial number on all volumes. Actually, this was great as I could move the app to different servers and it would still work.

The Vista client returns a different Volume Serial Number. In fact it returns a different number for each volume.

Does anyone know how to manipulate this? I can't find much information on the internet about this.
