WHY OHH WHY??? iFolder 3.0 with no MSI??

Ok, I had a hell of a time getting the 2.1.2 iFolder client working in
a multi-user mode, with locked down computers. I prayed to the
computer gods nights on end that iFolder 3.0 would come with a MSI
delivery for corporate distribution. But no. It is now an executable,
that can be ran with a /s switch, and wants to download dotnetfx during
the install from the internet. This type of installation works GREAT
for home users but not for us who want a standard distribution. Sure,
I can snapshot it or run it through an MSI creation tool, but that's
a hassle to do with every release you guys seem to put out. It just
plain doesn't make sense to me. Isn't Novell the one who will be
forcing us to go to MSI only in Zenworks 7? If so, why release more of
this crap? I will continue praying, and hope this reaches some ears.
I had meetings with Novell reps during the 2.1.2 days, and they said
they would pass the word on, but it looks like it didn't make it high
enough.

Some input would be great. If I am wrong in my findings, please let me
know.

Re: WHY OHH WHY??? iFolder 3.0 with no MSI??

Ok, OK. There was no visible way of extracting the MSI, until you run
the install. If you run the install and get past the DotNET FX portion
of the install. This package puts an MSI in "C:\Documents and
Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp\_isAC\iFolder Client.msi". I
have found no information on Novell's site for MSI properties on this
client. We already have a DOTNETFX distribution, so really the client
is the only hurtle. I will continue my quest to find the perfect
delivery method, and will report on findings if anyone is interested.

Re: WHY OHH WHY??? iFolder 3.0 with no MSI??

I have already submitted an enhancement request. This was something
that I had also requested for the previous version as well during their
planning for 3.0. I am continuing on my lead with the extraction of
the MSI from the EXE provided. So far, I am running into errors when
changing install location, but once I have everything worked out, I
will post my findings.

Thanks for the replies, good to know you guys are out there watching
and listening.
