Wifi

Hello,

Is there any way to use a wireless (wifi) connection with the Netware
Client? I am assuming that you would have to somehow load the wireless
connection prior to login with the Netware Client.
Any suggestion?

Thank you.

Eric

Of course. It's not really different than a cable.

That's the default behaviour of Windows.

Re: Wifi

I am using a pre-SP4 client. Is there a way to have the 802.1x
authentication prior to the Novell login wihtout having to login locally to
the machine first, then 802.1x authentication and then Novell network login?

Not with a pre-Sp4 client, no.

Re: Wifi

For a wifi connection you do have some options, they are limited though. The most established method is Juniper's Odyssey Access Client. It can be configured two ways: 1) user authentication tied into Novell Client 4.91 that will perform authentication and establish a wireless connection during Novell login 2) machine authentication that will establish a wireless connection pre-login using a machine certificate, shared key, etc.

A second option that I've had success with requires WinXP SP3 or greater. After adding the regkey AuthMode=1 (DWORD) to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EAPOL\Parameters\General\Global\ the Windows wireless supplicant can be configured for machine certificate authentication. So far, in testing, I've seen that the Novell client will not complete the login until it has established a wireless connection, allowing the login scripts to run. I can't guarantee this will work pre-SP4 but it does not use Novell client's 802.1x authentication so there's no reason it wouldn't.
