WinXP SP2 crashes when browsing NW volumes

Hi,
some of "my users" keep on reporting that the explorer.exe process on WXP
SP2 crashes when they work on Netware volumes. Sometimes the error occurs
when simply browsing the volumes, sometimes when renaming files or opening
them. They event on which the process crashes is different from case to
case and doesn't seem to be repeatable.
The windows event log shows an error in netapi32.dll (yeah, I know... it's
a windows file) with code 0x000390dc.
Of course I tried to google for that code and all I found was people having
the same problem. Unfortunately most of them report that the error only
occurs when working with novell network drives.

Is this a known problem? I tried searching the TIDs but without any success.

Thanks in advance
- Sebastian

Re: WinXP SP2 crashes when browsing NW volumes

Sebastian:
Did you come across this posting:
http://software.groupbrowser.com/nextthread185566.html

they were all pretty old clients.
Probably wouldn't see with 4.91.1.20050819 client.

what client are you using?

Do you use IP or IPX? If IP do you have slp configured/

Are they using their firewalls?

Like you said it's a Windows file.

Run "sfc /scannow" to make sure all Windows file Protection files are
OK.

Just a few thoughts,
Peter

Re: WinXP SP2 crashes when browsing NW volumes

Hi and thanks for your answer,
we are using the latest clients 4.91 SP1 (4.91.1.20050819)
Firewalls are turned off.
We are using IP and SLP.
The "sfc /scannow" completes with no errors.

Is it still occurring?

As far as i know SFC doesn't report errors, but ask for the CD if it
needs to restore DLL's to the CACHE.

Should have been more specific on the SLP I gues, is it "Scoped" or
"Unscoped"?
Netware version and patches?
NSS volumes or traditional? If, NSS have you applied the Post SP Patch?

Just grasping now as this seems peculiar to me.
