Windows 7 64 Bit - Novell Client 2 SP1 for Win7 crashes

I have just built a brand new Windows 64 bit Professional workstation and attempted to install the Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows 7 client on it.

Installed failed repeatedly with an NMAS 1603 error. I discovered a fix for this (registry key problems) and finally was able to do a complete install of the Novell client.

Now when I reboot and attempt to login or use Advanced settings the Novell client crashes (the advanced login settings window is completely empty, btw)

The error is:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
The Application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

So, I log into the workstation Windows only and attempt to use the Novell taskbar utility nwtray to login, and when I right click on it and select Login it just crashes.

In the event log I see that nwtray.exe has crashed with a fault in MFC800.DLL

The logon crash is attributed to LogonUI.exe - mscvrt.dll is to blame apparently.

This is brand new machine, clean install of Windows 64 Bit Professional. Is the Novell Client for Windows 7 available in 64 bit only? I didn't see a download for it, or could the problem be something wrong with the client itself?

Any help would be appreciated. This is our first attempt to deploy a Windows 7 machine on our network.

Thanks!
Joe

I also installed Novell Client 2 SP1 on Windows 7 Ultimate. Installation went smoothly but soon after loging in, Explorer starts crashing. Seems like the first time I use the browse feature inside a program like MS Word File Open, explorer crashes. Then all explorer windows crash when trying to browse any file location.

Subversion,

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum specifically for IT Pros located here http://tinyurl.com/7jq7ps . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to also check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback.

Joe- I am having the exact same issue. Did you find an answer to the advanced settings window being blank?

Thanks for your help.

The symptoms being described here sound like they are in reference to
registry security issues which could be introduced if the iPrint 5.32
or 5.30 client was installed prior to the Novell Client for Windows.

Novell Client 2 SP1 for Windows Readme
4.30 Failures Installing, Uninstalling, and Using the Novell Client if
Novell iPrint is Installed Before the Novell Client
http://www.novell.com/documentation/vista_client/readme/ncwv_readme.html#bqgne38

The Novell Client 2 SP1 (IR2) and later intend to clean up the
registry permissions issue created during the iPrint client
installation (if such issues are present) and continue to permit a
successful Novell Client installation.

So if you haven't already, download and simply attempt installing the
current Novell Client 2 SP1 (IR3) on top of whatever failed Novell
Client installation is currently showing the blank Advanced tab
section.
