administrator login problems on Win2K server help!

Hi there,

I have been installing iFolder a few times with different settings on my
Windows 2000 server running Active directory and I can't possibly get it to
work.

The install runs fine, but then when I try to login to the admin page to
change the global settings, I get the error message:

Your previous login failed!

The weird thing is that when I enter the wrong password for the
Administrator user, I get the headers/footer for that error page, but when I
enter the correct password I just get this error message and the login box.

This machine is behind a NAT firewall, but I have a DNS entry for it:
heklalocal.avk.is that points to its internal IP address: 10.1.1.1

I tried to use all the default settings for the install according to the
manual.

My active directory domain name is: avk.is
The local configured hostname is hekla.avk.is

here are the configuration settings:
to extend the schema I used:
cn=administrator,cn=users,dc=avk,dc=is

LDAP host name: heklalocal.avk.is
PORT: 389

LDAP context for iFolder Admin
I have tried both
cn=administrator,cn=users,dc=avk,dc=is
and
cn=users,dc=avk,dc=is

iFolder Admin Names:

I have tried both to use "administrator" and also adding a second user too,
with a semicolon. I have not been able to use that second user to do
anything, not even reproduce that misterious missing header/footer bug
above.

The active directory was installed fresh on this server, I have tried to
uninstall it, and re-install it, but I always get the same errors.

I'd really appreciate any help I can get on this.

Thanks in advance,

Brynjar

Re: administrator login problems on Win2K server help!

Forgot to mention that I'm installing iFolder version 2.1.

The server is Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP 4

Re: administrator login problems on Win2K server help!

Look for several posts by myself that also explain in great detail this
same problem. So far no one has an answer. I have repeated this same
problem on several different hardware platforms and across multiple VMware
installs using WIndows 2000 and 2003 Server. While this post reply is not
a solution you should at least know that you are not alone in your frustration!

Re: administrator login problems on Win2K server help!

Hi,

I ran in a lot of problem installing ifolder under win2k/AD/IIS.

The problem was that the created user (don't remember the name, was like
"Ifolder_agent") by the ifolder server didn't have the correct password
and was disabled.

I realize that by trying to install ifolder in a separate computer and
sniffing ldap traffic against AD server ... something was showing "bad
credential" error when the ifolder server was trying to bind using
"ifolder_agent" user. You'll be able to figure the correct password to
set looking at the ldap bind request wich contains the password in clear
text.

I know this is late, but I recently found a solution to this which I
haven't seen posted. If nothing else, this might help those searching
the forum down the road....

The culprit may be your user name when logging into AD -- if you
have a user as follows:

FirstName: iFolder
LastName: Admin
LogonName: ifadmin

When logging in to AD using LDAP syntax, you must use 'iFolder Admin'
(NOT 'ifadmin'!), and 'iFolder Admin' is what iFolder must have in the
iFolder Admin list.

And for those who've already installed using 'ifadmin' and therefore
cannot login to the iFolder Admin page to fix the problem, just change
this registry entry...

HKLM\System\CurrentControSet\Services\W3SVC\iFolderServer\iFolderAdminN
ame

...to hold the correct name, then execute IISRESET from a command
prompt -- once the web server has restarted, login to the iFolder Admin
page is possible.
