can't login to tree, but IP works great?!??

Workstation - W2k, with Client32 4.91.
Server - NW 6.0.5
Have unscoped DA

All other workstations seem to work okay, but one will not find a tree
during login. However, logging in using IP address works fine, in fact, it
works great!

Anyone have an idea as to what is going on here? I could just leave the IP
address there, but I wanna make sure nothing else is wrong that will bite me
later.

SLP is not working.

Can you post the output from typing SLPINFO /ALL
from the workstation and DISPLAY SLPDA from the
server.

Re: can't login to tree, but IP works great?!??

Tim,

Event Viewer logs in Windows showing anything unusual?

Security or any other driver-based software like firewall, VPN, remote
management or antivirus installed and running?

Can you verify a virus, spyware or some other corruption has not
affected Windows?
I've used these utilities in the past to help troubleshoot and they can
tell you wonders about what is really going on with Windows...

AutoRuns, Process Explorer, Filemon, Regmon, LoadOrder, TCPView, and TDImon

UPDATE: can't login to tree, but IP works great?!??

This now affects 2 computers, but both of them are W2k computers. The XP
computers login just fine!

Strange??

Re: UPDATE: can't login to tree, but IP works great?!??

My guess is a slow initializing DA Agent.

1) Hard-Code the DA, Mark as Static, and Disable use DHCP for SLP to see
if that helps.

2) Try increasing the "WaitForDA" setting in the Client.

FIXED??: can't login to tree, but IP works great?!??

Installed 4.91 sp 2 (instead of SP1) and all seems to be well.

The issue never did affect XP machines....
