iManager can't manage NSS on one server

I'm getting the error:
"Error: File Protocol error occurred: cannot open the NSS version file on the selected server. The NSS software may not currently be running on this server."

This is a new OES11sp3 box; NetWare and openwbem don't apply.
Another server that was set up two weeks prior the same way is fine.

The data is accessible via UNC, and NSSMU seems to work fine. The NSS admin object is there, and I myself am definitely LUM enabled for every server.
Users do complain of intermittent access which a reboot fixes, but I'm not sure if this is a red herring or not.

Hi,

Does LUM is working correctly on the server ?

Did you checked you default certificate for that server ?

Yes. I can use the id command on the server with my username (same I login to iManager with), it works fine. Same with the main admin account.
The server is relatively new, was created 6 months ago. Certs are good for two years, they check as valid.

Well, openwbem does apply, it's just called sfcb now. Check if it's
running, or in doubt just issue a "rcsfcb restart".

there is no such thing as OES11 SP3 ...

Either way, is the server patched ?
There have been a series of patches released over time that are related to
the problems you describe. When patched, we can eliminate all these as
being a possible root cause for the problems you are seeing.

When not patched, word of advise is to update before anything else.

Ah, good to know. However, it didn't change anything. I restarted it, twice even. It does show running. Same iManager error though.

Ok. So is there anything recorded in /var/log/messages when you try?

Nope, nothing. No errors, no mention of it. It seems to run okay.

I do see in the ncpserv.log the bit I pasted below
It's the "Invalid Volume GUID Format" that bothers me, though that is similar to a previously "cosmetic" error that was meaningless.
Is that referring to the ADMIN volume, or the DATA volume? If the Admin volume then it's a non issue, right?
The CIFS "error" doesn't bother me because we don't use it.

Mind you, I can get to the volume fine, but some of the users are experiencing some weird issues, where suddenly they're denied access to a file they should have access to.
Logging back in seems to fix that.
It might an issue with an older version of their client, but I'm just not sure. Something could be wonky with the NSS pool/volume?
I can't take if offline and verify or anything except for after hours, of course.
