miggui : missing "latest SMS & NSS patches" ?

Hi All,

I see this warning reported :

013-09-26 12:45:12,063 INFO - Migration Framework:TargetServer Authentication:Attempting to connect to Target with the parameters
2013-09-26 12:45:12,064 INFO - Migration Framework:TargetServer Authentication:Authenticating to the Target Server(secure)

2013-09-26 12:46:36,222 INFO - FILESYSTEM:Information:Checking whether the latest SMS & NSS patches are applied or not...
2013-09-26 12:46:36,222 INFO - FILESYSTEM:Information:executing command: /opt/novell/migration/sbin/migfiles --source-server 206.87.24.78 --source-path "USERS:ADM/CMS/aalcanta" --destination-full-path "/media/nss/HOME_2/Staff_2/aalcanta" --list-extensions
2013-09-26 12:46:38,425 INFO - FILESYSTEM:Warning:Continuing the migration without the latest SMS & NSS patches.

Source is NetWare 6.5sp8 with all post sp8 nss and tsa patches applied.
Target is OES11 sp1 on SLES11 sp2, also fully patched.

It is hard to tell though if the warning is for the source or the target server. I assume from the order of the commands that is is on the target that it thinks there is a problem.

The migration runs without any further errors - except I noticed that NFS namespace on the source is NOT preserved on the target. It seems that all the target files get put into the Long namespace. This concerns me a bit for files that were created by Mac, Unix, BSD etc clients. Both the source and target volumes have the same set of namespaces enabled (DOS, Mac, Unix, Long) and both have the same default (Long).

Am I wrong to be concerned about the change in namespace from NFS to Long?

Thanks,

Ron

Re: miggui : missing "latest SMS & NSS patches" ?

There was a NetWare patch and as well as OES patch to speed up the migration sync process released some time back. This warning message is related to it.
AFAIK, supported namespaces for NSS are DOS, UNIX, MAC and LONG and by default LONG is set. All file names of these namespaces will be preserved and one can view the filenames based on how they are mounted.

If you mean NFS as UNIX, then in that case it is supported.

Re: miggui : missing "latest SMS & NSS patches" ?

I looked for these patches on the Novell patch download site and couldn't find anything ... do you have links or TID #'s ? Or is it that the patches are only available via opening an SR with NTS?

What I mean by "NFS" is that the Novell Client for Windows, on both XP and Win7, reports the namespace of files on the NetWare/NSS volume as "NFS", but when the files are migrated to OES11/NSS they get reported as being in the LONG namespace. Probably, hopefully, this is just a cosmetic / reporting issue.

Cheers,

Ron

Re: miggui : missing "latest SMS & NSS patches" ?

By comparing the log files for a NetWare to OES migration vs an OES11 to OES11 migration I have determined that the source of the complaint (ie not running the latest sms/tsa patches) is the NetWare server. So now the question can be focused to "what versions of sms/tsa need to be on the NetWare server?" and "where do I get them?"

These are the currently installed component versions:

Re: miggui : missing "latest SMS & NSS patches" ?

The above mentioned Migration NetWare TSA patch is not released public. You need to contact Novell support for getting this NW patch. This TSA patch is supposed to be applied on top of public released N65NSS8c patch.

As a side note, this patch only helps to speed up the File System migration 'Sync' process.
