nw65sp5 tweaked my jvm?

I went to upgrade my NW6.5 box to spack 5. The install went fine until
right at the end when it tried to shut down the jvm. The java -killall and
java -exit commands popped up on the console and then the system hung.

In the logger screen I see the message:

Module STOPX.NLM load status OK
Java: JAVA.NLM should not be unloaded because of one or more suspended classes.
Java: An exception occurred while cleaning up Help. The JVM running this
class is permanently suspended and its resources are unrecoverable.

After rebooting quite a few services crash on startup (mainly tomcat).

I tried back-revving but the uninstall never gets started as it hangs with
the same jvm errors.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

nw65sp5 tweaked my jvm?

Some further info on this issue: Since this happened, every time I try
to start tomcat I get this message in the logger screen:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
java: Page fault processor exception occurred while executing class
com.novell.application.tomcat.util.tcccheck.LDAPVerifier

State of Registers at Processor Exception:
EIP=8771E200, EFLAGS=210202, EAX=2, ECX=93BE7444, EDX=68,
EBX=93BE7459, ESP=93BE7238, EBP=93BE767C, ESI=8CB6A1A0, EDI=200

The exception occurred while executing code in: JAVA.NLM (87701000)
The exception occurred while running thread: Java_991 Main (8C602300)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Java: An exception occurred while cleaning up
com.novell.application.tomcat.util.tccheck.LDAPVerifier. The JVM running
this class is permanently suspended and its resources are unrecoverable.

Also, running java -show shows that all java classes are suspended. If I
find a new copy of the jvm somewhere and install it by itself will this
fix things or make them worse?

This is the one server where we actually use tomcat and mysql to support
a fairly important app, so I'm dead in the water. I'd really appreciate
any suggestions.

Thanks!

Re: nw65sp5 tweaked my jvm?

Have you tuned memory on this server? If so, remote the -u option from the
server load line
in autoexec.bat and see if this fixes it.

Re: nw65sp5 tweaked my jvm?

Charles, thanks for responding. It hasn't been tuned recently, but I don't
have a -u on the load line. Can the -u tag be used to enlarge the user
address space past the default or just reduce it? Maybe I need to raise it
a bit. If I could get the jvm to shut down I could conceivably reinstall it
from the overlay cd, but it refuses to shut down.

Re: nw65sp5 tweaked my jvm?

Yes, -u can be used to raise or lower the user address space. That may
not be your problem though, but I have seen java fail to load because of
insufficient user address space.

Re: nw65sp5 tweaked my jvm?

I had also a problem with suspended classes. The SP didn't finish. I
took the whole java directory from a healthy server that was already at
sp5 and copied it to the problem server. After that the sp was easy to
install.
