sbcon erase

I've run into this issue on a number of servers, all are NW65SP3 OES. All servers utilize exabyte vxa-1 or vxa-2 drives. When erasing with sbcon, the screen seems to hang. Utilization is normal but nothing happens, it just says please wait till the cows come home, literally two days if I leave it. The server otherwise doesn't abend and all other services continue normally, however to kill sbcon one needs to unload it which then of course results in an abend. TSA18up applied. If I used exatool to erase, no issue and it's done in 60secs flat.

Any clues?
