unable to bind to edirectory through ldap

I can't install edirectory. I've been through tid 10100513.

Except: There are no certificate objects for the server, there is no nds
server object for the server. I'm at a loss for how to proceed.

Is this a new tree or an existing tree?

Does this happen during a new server install or are you installing
edirectory afterwards?

Is SLP set up and healthy?

Re: unable to bind to edirectory through ldap

It is an existing tree.

It happened during install, so I aborted installing edirectory & novell
stuff, and now when I try to install edirectory after it happens.

SLP is set up and healthy. I explicitly specify the scope & ipaddress of
the DA.

Is it a netware or OpenSLP DA? You may have some v1/v2 problems.

Did you remove any objects the server created after the install?
Specifically the server object, LDAP objects, certificate objects, and
any volume objects?

You may want to check the machine's /var/nds/nds.log to see if there is
a specific reason it failed.

Re: unable to bind to edirectory through ldap

There is no nds.log file, there is an ndsd.log file and there doesn't seem
to be any problems. I'm going to remove edirectory with yast and re-install
to see if that helps.

Can you tell me if you have to install ncp when you install edirectory?

Do you have to install ncp if you install ifolder3?

Thanks for your help.

Re: unable to bind to edirectory through ldap

Hello,

We have the same problem installing into an exsisting tree. Same
conditions. DA is on NW6.5

Did you ever solved the problem?

Re: unable to bind to edirectory through ldap

After the bind fails, you'll notice the new server going into the tree
actually does end up in the tree. You'll also notice you're given a few
options about continuing. Before continuing, go to another machine and
give this server full rights to its destination container. Then go back
to the installation and retry. It should now work.
