yast2 DNS settings

Hi,

I try to install the novell-named DNS server with Yast2. The rpm installs fine but the configuration fails. I use the exact same settings as on another server. The yast log says a lot. I expect these lines to be interesting:
2008-08-05 16:54:33 <3> fs2(5478) [bash] ShellCommand.cc(shellcommand):78 RootServerInfo Create RR And RRSet Already Exist2008-08-05 16:54:33 <3> fs2(5478) [bash] ShellCommand.cc(shellcommand):78 Successfully Added/Modified RootServerInfo RR Objects...2008-08-05 16:54:33 <3> fs2(5478) [bash] ShellCommand.cc(shellcommand):78 timediff:60 DNS config failed to add/modify RootServerInfo object, please check whether schema is extended properly and ldap admin has sufficient rights to configure objects and retry

the server is SLES 10 SP 1 OES2 patched to the most recent updates. The user I use to log in on the server is the admin which has all the rights in the eDirectory.

Can someone give me a hint were to look?

Thanks in advance,

Anton

Re: yast2 DNS settings

abossenbroek,

yast mentions if the ldap admin has the appropriate rights ... so i assume yast does the dns config in edirectory with ldap which would allow to set the ldap trace to the highest level, open the trace screen and try to configure dns using yast once again. Then we maybe see the error in the ldap trace and can check what we can do to fix it.

Are you familiar with ldap traces ?

It will try to add Root server and also addition to that it will
add acls to root server and group objects. If fails it will keep trying
the same not more than 60 seconds.

But admin will have all the rights, so it might not failed because
of any rights issue. I guess u r trying to add server to existing tree
and it is timing out. Need to figure out why it is timing out.

May be you could post the entire dns related y2log
information. Would like to check the status of the previous objects.
(Group, users)

Do u have refferals enabled, may be it is unable to operate on referrals.
FYI, To solve these referrals there has been a fix made in OES2 sp1.

Hope this helps.
