HP SHR 9.4: NPS Reports Empty

Jump to solution

The integration to NPS's Sybase DB is configured correctly, using the DBA user. The connection succeeds, and I can see in dbcollector.log that SHR is attempting to collect data, but is returning ZERO rows:

Re: HP SHR 9.4: NPS Reports Empty

Mike,

Because SHR collects only a subset of the NPS metrics, the most common problem I have seen is that the requested metircs are not available on the source, though the NPS tables contain other metrics.

I don't know if this is the case on your system, but the attached queries will help eliminate the question.  If they are run against the NPS database and return data, something is wrong with the SHR collection system,  If they do not return data, then the metrics need to be enabled on the NPS side.

When you run the queries, the dates will need to be modified, of course.

Hope this helps,

Phil

PERFECT! Thanks so much, Phil. I've asked about this on several occasions, actually. I will run these queries on the NPS system, and let you know the outcome!

Re: HP SHR 9.4: NPS Reports Empty

Update: 01.12.2016 @ 0921 PST:

@Phil Hale: So, I used dbisql in a command window, run as Administrator. In short, using the ODBC connection option, the same user and password that works in the local ODBC config itself (Test Connection) and a test connection in HP SHR to the NPS DB does not work, weirdly enough. I've got the string used in HP SHR to connect to NPS, but this is not an option in dbisql on the NPS server. Do you know the default NPS DB name, off the top of your head, Phil? I will also research this, of course. Thanks!

Forget it, I found a command line way to pull this off. 🙂

On the second query, it was too large for me to put in at the command line. I will keep searching for that dbisql GUI answer, but that first query shows it as empty with the (0 rows) response.

UPDATED:

I just changed from using the Sybase DB creds to Windows Authentication, and it went straight in.

The second query yields 0 rows as well.

Therefore, I will get in touch with the NPS guy. Thanks, Phil. Even though you are not on the SHR/OBR Team any more, you still remain #1.

Re: HP SHR 9.4: NPS Reports Empty

Jump to solution

One more update, as I want this information available here on the forum for others who might encounter this issue. I was perusing the OBR 10 documentation, and accidentally came across the following passage at the very bottom of the NPS Configuration section:

If you have configured Sybase IQ as your data source and collection is not happening when network data source is configured, follow these steps:

1. Copy the jconn4.jar from the Sybase IQ server to $PMDB_HOME/lib directory.

2. Restart the collection service.

There are several JARs with this name on the NPS server. The correct one to move to the lib directory on the SHR server is $SYBASE\SCC-3_*\common\lib\jconn4.jar.

It seems my jconn4.jar on my SHR 9.4x box was corrupt or in a bad state or both, because as soon as I replaced this JAR file, dbcollector.log started getting NPS collecting rows entries.

I will be checking for NPS report population tomorrow AM.

Re: HP SHR 9.4: NPS Reports Empty

Jump to solution

Well, I am getting a boatload of data collected, but the reports are still not populating. I am getting this error:

No data to retrieve for the following Queries: Daily Node.

From the SHR dbcollect.log:

For table nps_g_NodeGroup_type2_InterfaceTopology setting next startTime to 2015-12-31 09:03:42
2016-01-15 17:12:01,592 DEBUG, com.hp.bto.bsmr.collection.collector.db.DBQueryRunner.queryTable , Extracted 41256534 rows from table "g_NodeGroup Type2_InterfaceTopology" for host <FQDN of NPS Server> in 498684 milliseconds

So, some tables have a huge amount of data, but it seems for the tables that "count" SHR collects 0 rows. See bold entries below.

2016-01-15 17:20:39,261 INFO, com.hp.bto.bsmr.collection.collector.DBCollector.collect , Extracted 0 rows from table/query with name f_hour_componentmetrics with last collection time 2016-01-13 09:00:00.082(in UTC 1452693600082 ) in 3578 milliseconds, 0 rows from table/query with name d_ComponentTopology with last collection time 2016-01-13 09:00:03.66(in UTC 1452693603660 ) in 672 milliseconds, 0 rows from table/query with name f_hour_InterfaceMetrics with last collection time 2016-01-13 09:00:04.332(in UTC 1452693604332 ) in 3469 milliseconds, 0 rows from table/query with name d_InterfaceTopology with last collection time 2016-01-13 09:00:07.801(in UTC 1452693607801 ) in 953 milliseconds, 15226803 rows from table/query with name "g_InterfaceGroup Type2_InterfaceTopology" with last collection time 2015-12-31 16:00:08.754(in UTC 1451595608754 ) in 214154 milliseconds, 41256534 rows from table/query with name "g_NodeGroup Type2_InterfaceTopology" with last collection time 2015-12-31 16:03:42.908(in UTC 1451595822908 ) in 498684 milliseconds, 42456552 rows from table/query with name "g_NodeGroup Type2_ComponentTopology"

I am using the DBA user and password in the SHR config for NPS, so it's not a permissions issue.

On the NPS side, these tables ARE populated:

Re: HP SHR 9.4: NPS Reports Empty

Update: Could this be an issue with NPS 10, SP1?

What are the supported versions and patch level for NPS that will work with SHR 9.4x?
