(OBR) Support Tip: Potential Data Loss! OBR 10.30/10.31 - Check your DATETIME and Shift_fact tables

Hi all,

We are aware of an issue that will lead to data loss if unchecked. OBR uses two Vertica tables (DATETIME and Shift_Fact) to process incoming data. These tables are maintained by the datetimemaint and shiftmaint commands run by the HPE_PMDB_Platform_Timer service.

24:00+24:00 - - {PMDB_HOME}/bin/datetimemaint
24:00+24:00 - - {PMDB_HOME}/bin/shiftmaint

There is a known defect (QCCR8D103564) which result in the HPE_PMDB_Platform_Timer service not starting properly so these commands are not run.

You can check the tables concerned using:

SELECT MAX(TIME_FULL_DATE) FROM datetime;   -- should be around 4 years ahead
SELECT MAX(start_time) FROM Shift_Fact;  -- should be two months ahead

Other symptoms of this issue are that CSV files are moved to stage/archive folder but the data is not loaded to the Vertica database and no error is reported.

You can run the datetimemaint and shiftmaint commands manually but should address the issue with the timer service not running correctly by applying OBR Patch 10.31.P1.
