Folder and partition sizes for CDF OBM nodes

Greetings all,

Assuming we have large containerized OBM deployment size, dedicated NFS, configured docker thin pool devices on master and worker nodes (does 100GB fits or not?), we are looking for exact requirements for folder space and mounts are for master and worker nodes.

Documentation is not clear enough here saying of abstract 200 GB without specifying whether its for root partition or it should be splitted to /opt, /var/opt/kubernetes or thinpool. And other part of it saying about CDF only demands.

Could someone share the experience and/or knowledge what are exact values should be for folder space on master nodes and worker nodes?

The least effective value is the goal.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Mikhail

Hello Mikhail

Regarding your question, 100GB won't be sufficient since for the CONTAINER DEPLOYMENT FOUNDATION (on the master nodes the minimum recommended free space is 200GB, 100GB extra if you will use it as the NFS; this data is based on the minimum requirements that the Micro Focus team has validated the tool, taking in account the possibility of expanding the deployment without the need to change the environment hardware in a drastic way; you can refer to the following link https://docs.microfocus.com/itom/Operations_Bridge:2018.08/Meet-the-hardware-requirements_22184448 for more details

That documentation is for the latest release the 2018.08, on this section of the guide you will find the following data

Standard setup (no OBM high availability) hardware requirements

HA setup (OBM high availability) hardware requirements

CDF requirements: split into directory requirements whether is a master or worker node along with a description of the directory content

Hope you find this information useful

Best Regards

Hello Jose,

Thanks for answering.

You know, there are two main problem whith the guide in the section of disk requirements: first - how 200GB of disk size on master corresponds with thin pool devices (there surely should be less space required if one uses thin pools), and the second one - while CDF has it's particular requirements to folder/mounts size, the whole picture of 200GB is unclear, how should one take care of sizes and what should be in /opt, /var etc.

Also for the first point I must add that searching through the guide (You can also consider looking into DCA guide as well as it is referring to ITOM suite installation) thin pool is configured to use 80GB+10GB (for master and worker). And should it be calculated with or without main requirements (saying 200GB master, 140 GB worker) - that is the question.

Regards,

Mikhail
