Sybase service getting stopped frequently

Jump to solution

Hi,

HP_PMDB_Platform_Sybase service is getting stopped frequently. And it does not start as I tried to start the service, because of which all data is in collect folder. What could be the reason for the frequent disconnection of sybase service.

Thanks and Regards,

Looks like you may need to increase the size of the Sybase IQ buffer cache. Please see the knowledge article at https://softwaresupport.hp.com/group/softwaresupport/search-result/-/facetsearch/document/KM00465416 for more details.

If the system on which Sybase IQ is running has 4 or less CPUs, then check you have added the "-iqgovern 50" parameter to the pmdbConfig.cfg file and restart the Sybase IQ database.

You can find the pmdbConfig.cfg file under:
For SHR 9.4x: $PMDB_HOME/config
For SHR 9.3x on Windows: ~/Sybase/IQ-15_4/scripts
For SHR 9.3x on Linux: /opt/HP/BSM/Sybase/IQ-15_4/scripts

This will also show you how the memory is allocated.

If this is not the issue, then check the following:

The Sybase log files for the problem period.
For SHR 9.4x: ~/Sybase/db/pmdb.iqmsg.
For SHR 9.3x on Windows: %IQLOGDIR15%\*.srvlog
For SHR 9.3x on Linux: /opt/HP/BSM/Sybase/IQ-15_4/logfiles/*.srvlog

The Windows Event log or the Linux syslog.

There is sufficient space for SHR and Sybase IQ. Also in Interactive SQL, run “select * from sp_iqfile()”.

There is sufficient RAM and swap (page file) space.

For guidance see the SHR Performance, Sizing, and Tuning Guide.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the reply, I checked for which you asked for,

-iqgovern 50 is already being added before, so this doesn't seems to be issue.

Then I checked the logfile *.srvlog, in that I found some warning, like this.

The Sybase start up looks ok apart from the warning about the hugepage support.  You may want to disable this - see http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH218263 - as it can affect performance.

Use:

 echo never > /sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/enabled
  echo never > /sys/kernel/mm/redhat_transparent_hugepage/enabled
  boot with transparent_hugepage=never

However, what you really need to look at is the section in the log when the database is not available - to see what/if any errors are logged at this time.

Hi,

Thanks for the Reply

I checked for the log file at the location name "pmdb.iqmsg"

I see something like this, can you tell is this the problem for the temporary shutdown of sybase service. If yes, can you tell me how can it be resolved, and if not what else can be the problem.

Reply will be well appreciated.

Looks like you may need to increase the size of the Sybase IQ buffer cache. Please see the knowledge article at https://softwaresupport.hp.com/group/softwaresupport/search-result/-/facetsearch/document/KM00465416 for more details.
