Windows 2008 Application and Services Logs

Is the out of the box OMW event log reader capable of reading these new log files? Or do we need to run a pre-processor to support them?

Looks like i found the answer here. You need to upgrade to OMW agent version 8.6.501 to support the new event logs.

The event log name will need to be in the following format:

Microsoft-Windows-Application-Experience/Program-Inventory

Just replace the "Program-Inventory" with the specfic event log your looking for.

If your on a lower agent version that doesn't support Windows 2008, you'll receive the typical error "Logfile %Microsoft-Windows-Application-Experience/Program-Inventory_LOG% doesn't exist. Treating as empty. (OpC30-108)"

There is a hotfix that can be requested to handle this.  The other route as mentioned was pre-processing.
