export OM Win 8 policies to OMU 9

Jump to solution
Hi all,

Here is the problem I face:
I have had some troubles forwarding messages from OMW8 to OML9. But, after a lot of sweat and tears, and really nice help from you people, it went OK 🙂
But now, I am facing a new challenge...
I want to upload my OMW8 policies to OML9.

So far I did this:
1- ovpmutil CFG POL DNL /p "\Policies I developped"
2- copied the resulting directory to my OML9 server
3- opctempl -add /tmp/Policies\ I\ developped
4- ovc -restart

But when I expected a new policy group in OML9, I didn't find anything, not even "standalone" policies, not attached to any policy group.

So is there a magical way to download my OMW8 policies and upload them to OML9 ?

Jean-Bernard

I answered this question some time ago in the following thread:
Policy migration from OMW 8.1 to OMU 9
http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1393899

Please note that policy migration is supported only from OMW 8.16.

what is the output from the opctempl command?

Larry, here comes the output:

Error: 'Function not implemented yet'.

When I try opctempl -upload dir=/tmp/Policies\ I\ developped/
the output is: Operation successfully completed.

The thing is that even if I restart the OML9 processes (ovc -restart) my policies don't appear anywhere.

you don't use ovpmutil cfg pol dnl to export to OM.. that's the starting problem.. secondly, I wouldn't use a filename with spaces, that might be another problem

to exchange with OMU, you use ovowconfigexchange, I believe.. see the on-line help.

I do "Windows"

Drew, thanks for the answer but...

if you take a look at the OM 8 for Windows help, under "Exchange configuration data between management servers" to export policies from windows to unix, the indicated command is ovpmutil and the indicated import command is opctempl.

ovowconfigexchange is used only for nodes and instruction text export.

You mentionned something about ovinternals in one of my previous posts, could you link the specific download ?

Where is the

Error: 'Function not implemented yet'.

coming from.

I also think Drew has a point regarding the spaces in the file name. I don't think Linux is going to like that.

Larry,

The answer is: straught from the command line.
I took yours and Drew's point, so I renamed my policy group to PMAgent.

So I copied my PMAgent directory to the Linux system supporting OML9 and tried it again...

[root@oml9 ~]# opctempl -add /root/PMAgent/
Error: 'Function not implemented yet'.

So I told myself, I might as well try something else and here it comes:

[root@oml9 ~]# opctempl -upload dir=/root/PMAgent/
Operation successfully completed.

but no new nodegroup in OML9, even after ovc -restart.
Is there something I am doing wrong ?

Since I have succesfully forwarded messages from OMW to OML, is it really necessary to upload the policies to OML ?
I know I might not get some specific info, but then again, what am I going to miss ?

Jean-Bernard

That works !
Here comes the solution:
on your OM Windows server:
ovpmutil cfg pol dnl c:\temp\mydir /p "mypolicygroup" /8x

the policies go to a mypolicygroup/ForServer directory

upload it to your OM Linux 9 and then

opctempl -upload dir=/

And there you go !
