Hi,

The percentile value of a metric is the percentage of values in its frequency distribution that are equal to or lower than it.
For eg., 95th percentile CPU utilization implies % of CPU util% values that are <= 95; 90th percentile implies % of values <=90.

Thanks & Regards,

Vineetha

In other words, by doing a 90%-Percentile aggregation you get the sample-value where 90% of the samples fall below.
Basically it's like sorting the samples by value and then from that list take the value from the sample at/after postion 90%.

For example in OBR, on a Daily Aggregation from 5-Min values, we ususally get 288 samples. And 90% of 288 is 259.2.
So from the list of samples sorted by values, we would take the value of the next sample #260 as the 90% Percentile. Meaning we cut-off the peaks in samples #261-288.

Likewise for the 95% Percentile and other aggregation levels:
5-Min to Daily Aggregations ==> 288 samples ==> 95%percentile is sample #274
5-Min to Daily Aggregations ==> 288 samples ==> 90%percentile is sample #260 (see above)
5-Min to Hourly Aggregations ==> 12 samples ==> 95%percentile is sample #12 (= which is the Maximum actually)
5-Min to Hourly Aggregations ==> 12 samples ==> 90%percentile is sample #11

"What does to these words mean?" may have a different answer from "What is the data/calculation the supplied reports provide under this heading?"  The answers might even be different for different reporting time granularity (hourly vs daily).
