Customizer Host Name setting: fully qualified or not?

In the Configuration Manager (customizer) Host pane, should the Host
Name parameter be the fully qualified DNS name or not? It has worked
fine fully qualified until I tried to turn up my Experience Manager
adapter. It would not start, but logged the following:

2014-09-04 09:09:35,288 ERROR Integration.apm.Experience Manager
Dev.Database - Application host name, (HOSTNAME.EMORY.EDU), not equal to
any hostname row in the table APM_CONFIG_TAB.
2014-09-04 09:09:35,289 ERROR Integration.apm.Experience Manager
Dev.Database - Either change the host name via the Customizer, or
insert-update a case-sensitive row into APM_CONFIG_TAB with the correct
hostname.
2014-09-04 09:09:35,289 ERROR Integration.apm.Experience Manager
Dev.Database - Host names found in APM_CONFIG_TAB:
2014-09-04 09:09:35,289 ERROR Integration.apm.Experience Manager
Dev.Database - HOSTNAME
2014-09-04 09:09:35,290 ERROR Integration.apm.Experience Manager
Dev.Database - Error initializing Database

I changed the Host Name in customizer from HOSTNAME.EMORY.EDU to
HOSTNAME and the Experience Manager adapter starts without error.

Will this change affect anything else in NOC?

Thanks.

Steve

Re: Customizer Host Name setting: fully qualified or not?

I seem to remember running into something like this several years ago.
NOC is written in Java. When NOC starts up, via a Java function call
it asks the Operating System what is my hostname. The OS goes about
that however it does. My guess is that you have a short version in
your hosts file (ie: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. or
/etc/hosts), or the other way around, meaning long name. I could even
be order of precedence if you have both short and long in the host file.
I would try to match what is in the customizer, host file and BEM
adapter settings.

My guess is, that you will be able to resolve this, but if not, reach
out to support and they can assist further.
