Operation Center JVM is allocating too much memory

Hi,

We´ve Operator Console version 5.5.0.95397.
NOC is installed at a Windows 2012 R2, 64bit, with 16GB, CPU E5-2660 0 @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz (2 processors).

We´re experiencing performance problems when accessing to Dashboard, and very often we´ve to reboot NOC server to be able to access normally.

Looking into the performance values, we´ve realized mosformula.exe process is reaching 60% of CPU used and 10,7 GB of physical memory usage.

Taking traces from the server at fsgc.log we´ve seen there´re several GC Full lasting more than 10 seconds.

I read this forum talking about JVM memory management
https://www.netiq.com/communities/cool-solutions/operations-center-tuning-jvm/

I´ve check the configuration of Java Runtime, on Operation Center Configuration Manager, and
NOC Server Java Runtime Options are:
-server -Xmx10g -XX:MaxPermSize=128m "-Xloggc:D:\Appsys\NetIQOperationsCenter\NOC\logs\fsgc.log"

What I see is that NOC is consuming the maximum amount of memory configured to be used by JVM.
How can I diagnostic and solve the issue? I´m afraid that to increase physical memory wouldn´t be enough, as there´s something causing the memory leak.

I´ve followed https://www.netiq.com/documentation/noc55/troubleshooting/data/blx27bc.html to diangose the problem,
How could I upload some logs to the forum?
Thank you.

Re: Operation Center JVM is allocating too much memory

You need some java tuning. There isn't necessarily a leak, more likely
NOC hasn't completed discovering things, and as people use the client or
dashboard, they are asking for things that we don't have in memory.

I would recommend contacting support for help with tuning.
Also, what adapters are you running?
How many CPU's are allocated to the machine?
From the logs it looks like you are running control center.
How many app manger agents do you have?
How many QDB's?

I am concerned that you may need to increase the size of the VM running
NOC.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////

How many CPU's are allocated to the machine?
CPU E5-2660 0 @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz (2 processors).

From the logs it looks like you are running control center.
Yes, we´ve AppManager Operator Console, Control Center, NOC, Analysis Center.

How many app manger agents do you have?

Management Server 1 (running with NOC application too)
Management Server 2 (with consoles installed in it)
Proxy for Network Devices
Proxy for snmp Avaya, and module Communication Manager of Avaya.
Proxy for snmp (others), and trap receiver.
Server for Analysis Center.
Database server, with the following databases: QDB, NQCCDB, Data Mark, AC_Warehouse, AC_Configuration, IQRM
Servers with AppManager Agents: 114 (18 of them Linux, the rest Windows)
There´re about 5000 monitoring items being checked, many of them configured as "Monitoring Policy" on Management Groups.

How many QDB's?
There´s only one QDB running on this solution.

Regarding the need to increase the size of the VM running
NOC, would it help to solve or diagnostic the issue?

Thank you for your help,https://forums.novell.com/images/icons/icon11.png

Re: Operation Center JVM is allocating too much memory

"would it help to solve or diagnostic the issue?"
Not necessarily, but I think once you get the memory tuned and
increased, you might run into the CPU is at 100% or NOC uses all of the
memory on the box or something like that. This will be something to
keep in mind and look out for in the future.

I still suggest as a first step to talk to support and have them help
tune your java heap settings for NOC and Dashboard.
