Renaming elements in NOC

We have requests on occasion to rename elements in NOC. When we rename
it and run an SCM job against the service model, the new element in the
dashboard does not retain the SLA Status portlet data from the old
element name. It treats it as a totally new element. Is there any way to
retain the old data with the new name?

Thanks.

Steve

Re: Renaming elements in NOC

My guess is that it is probably hard to determine if an element was
decommission and no longer valid vs a "rename" especially with Service
Configuration Manager in the loop on this. IE: server12 was retired and
server13 was just brought online for the first time. Or was it that
server12 was named wrong and it should be server13.

I suggest talking with support to see if this is something that they may
be able to provide a change to the product to alleviate this type of
problem or if they can provide you an example SQL statement that will
give you the option of renaming the element name in the database to
retain the metrics. I'm totally guessing on the options, but in the
end, speak with support to see what they say.
