(OMi) Support Tip: How to check if Oracle MP 1.1x is collecting metrics properly

After discovering the Oracle CIs and deploying Oracle Management Pack MTs/Aspects, you can follow the procedure below to check if metrics are being collected properly:

(Steps to be run on managed node)

Perform a connection check to verify if the Oracle MP is able to connect to the Oracle instances with the configured parameters:

Unix: /var/opt/OV/bin/instrumentation/dbspicao -dv
Windows: %ovagentdir%\bin\instrumentation\dbspicao -dv

If you get a successful connection, use the options "-p -v" in  Oracle MP collector command to print to screen the actual value of the metrics. Please note that when using these options no alerts will be generated:

# ovdeploy -cmd "CollMgr -app=Oracle -freq=<FREQUENCY> -p -v" -node <FQDN>

Where:
<FREQUENCY> is one of the available frequencies. By default:
LOW
MEDIUM
HIGH
VERYHIGH

<FQDN> is the Node's fully qualified domain name

If there are errors in this execution, you can take a look at the following file:

Unix: /var/opt/OV/dbspi/log/dbspierror
Windows: %ovagentdir%\dbspi\log\dbspierror

You can also generate a trace to have more details about the problem:

  1. Enable Oracle MP tracing:

    Unix: /var/opt/OV/bin/instrumentation/dbspicol TRACE
    Windows: %ovagentdir%\bin\instrumentation\dbspicol TRACE

  2. Execute the command that is failing.

  3. Stop Oracle MP tracing:

    Unix: /var/opt/OV/bin/instrumentation/dbspicol TRACEOFF
    Windows: %ovagentdir%\bin\instrumentation\dbspicol TRACEOFF

Trace files will be generated under the dbspi log folder:

Unix: /var/opt/OV/dbspi/log
Windows: %ovagentdir%\dbspi\log
