Flow creation in OO

Jump to solution

Hi Experts,

I am new to OO.I have just installed all components and now planning to create flows in Studio.

Could any one suggest which flows should I try as I am in learning phase.

Also any guidelines to learn OO flows is appreciated.

Hi,

This depends on the usage you plan on giving OO later on. Some quick relatively simple tasks would be to get an understanding of various interactions should split your trining into  several areas:

SOAP API calls:

- find a weather service online that exposes the WSDL and using rest wizard and studio create a flow that can show the weather for any given location

REST API calls:

- execute a flow in central, check on its status and display the results based on the APIs documented in central's API guide.

FILE SYSTEM:

- get the contents of a local folder that itself contains subfolders and subfiles within the subfolders (try both iterative and multi-instance). Try to use a relatively small such folder in order not to run into tunning issues (ex: don't try this on c:\windows)

Remote command execution:

- try to recreate the above scenario's results on a remote host (linux and/or windows) using the remote command execution  operation

XML processing:

- using the built in operations validate and process some random XML

Data manipulation:

- create a flow that will generate valid lotery numbers (numbers within a certain range, and unique). Try to reduce the number of steps without compromising functionality.

Date and time:

- save a list of contents from a folder (and its subfolders) based on time of creation, time of last access and files which are older than a given threshold (x number of days).

When creating these flows try to adhere as best as possible to the authoring best practices documented  and try to use scriptlets as little as possible (it is possible to complete all these tasks without scriptlets).

While these seem rather basic exercises they will provide you with some of the basic skills required to author flows and do not require any specialised environments that may be hard to come by, as well as having the advantage of using content only from the base content pack.

Hope this helps,

Vlad
