[OO Tip] Remote Action Service Operation Definitions

Question:

What is the definition of RAS, JRAS and NRAS?  Please explain the differences in operations for each.

Answer:

  • Remote Action Service (RAS) operations      are written in either Java (JRAS) or .NET (NRAS).  The RAS operations for Java are packaged      in .jar files and those for .NET are packaged in .dll files.
  • RAS installed on a Windows      server supports both Java and .NET RAS operations.  However, RAS installed on a Linux server      only supports Java RAS (JRAS) operations and does not support .NET RAS      (NRAS) operations (e.g. NRAS Ping).
  • RAS should be installed on a Windows      machine to support .NET RAS operations and validate that NRAS operations      point to Windows RAS.
