Workflow to Start Window Service on Remote server

Hello,

I am working on a workflow, which starts 'MSSQLSERVER' service on remote windows server. Below are the steps:

  1. Check if service exists.
  2. If does not exists terminate the flow else goto #3.
  3. Check Service Status.
  4. If status is running terminate the flow else goto #5.
  5. Start the service.
  6. Resolve the flow on success.

I am trying to connect using admin priviledges user.
Getting error from "The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)" exception.

Any suggestions/inputs would be helpful.

Regards,

Ashish

Re: Workflow to Start Window Service on Remote server

Hi,

Regarding that error usually there are 2 reasons why it happens: 1) making an RPC call against a linux server or a windows server where the RPC service is not running or 2) firewall is blocking ports.

Make sure that the RPC service is running on the target server and if that is running try this https://enterpriseit.co/windows-server/rpc-server-unavailable-0x800706ba/ for the second scenario.

Hope this helps,

Vlad

Re: Workflow to Start Window Service on Remote server

Thanks Vlad.

1) RPC service is running on target m/c.

2) Opened all ports. Still not able to make connection from HP00 to DB m/c.

Any specific fiewwall rule, which needs to be enabled?

Re: Workflow to Start Window Service on Remote server

Hi Ashish,

You Need to Open TCP ports which dropping you call. You can check with networking team that at which port the packet is dropped then you need open the port. Most of the time there is issue in TCP port just request to open TCP ports Or else Use RAS configuration.

Thanks.

Re: Workflow to Start Window Service on Remote server

You most likely need to look at your wmi settings. There is a document in one of the versions of OO talking about wmi settings. Also, to track down exactly whats happening, look at your OO Gui flow, switch to table view and you be able to see if your "RPC unavailable" was due to credentials or if it couldn't actually connect.

Also  check if you have the ability to do psremoting by opening powershell and do enter-pssession -computername localhost on the machine you want to control. If you get an error back then you need to set that up first in order to connect from OO central/WRAS.
