Anyone here running Thunderbird 3?

I've noticed this annoying behavior with TB 3 and the forums that I
didn't have with 2.x. Now and then I'll click on a message and it's
blank. I know there is something there because replies to it will quote
it. Other messages are fine.

I can close TB, re-open and then go back to the message and it will be
there. I see this several times a week. Anyone else seen it?

Not sure (I don't run TB 3), but could this be a composite bug?

Try selecting the text of the message you're viewing? Does that show
up? Can you paste it somewhere else?

I only mention this because many apps, including things like TB,
have had composite issues with regards to font displaying in the
past.

Just an idea (completely off the wall)...

Obviously if you're not running with any composite features, then
forget all about this message 🙂

Yes, I see it at times as well, though usually when I click on the message
while Thunderbird is busily doing something else. Sometimes if I am
patient (seldom happens) and wait for it to load (for many minutes) it
will eventually come up as long as this was the first time I went to the
message. Other times, maybe I'm not patient enough or else it just
doesn't work. I cannot reproduce it at will though it happens regularly.

Good luck.

Actually it's weirder than that. I can't copy/paste, nor does it treat
it like a forum post. If I try and reply it will act as if it's an
e-mail not a forum post and there's no way to reply and have it go to
the forum. If I close TB and re-open and go back to that message then
it's fine.

It's annoying enough to almost make me want to go back to 2.x as I had
never seen the issue there. Overall, I'm not overly impressed with the
upgrade.

TB 3 has caused quite a bit of higher utilization on my box too.
Admittedly I subscribe to quite a few forums, and some with tens of
thousands of posts, but still. TB 2 seemed to have fewer issues in these
areas. I need to find some time to reproduce it, or see if Mozilla has
good pointers on how to track these things down. If you notice a pattern
I'd like to see if I can report a bug along these lines.

TB 3 has also lost histories of my posts (marks everything as unread) a
few times, though it recovers from that better than TB 2 did. I also like
the little reminder when you type 'attach' in a post where it tells you
that you still need to attach something (like it is doing now) since I
always forget that.

Good luck.

Patrick,

Note the workaround, or just let it finish the message retrieval before you
check the first message.

I've had TB treat a forum as if I just subscribed to it and all posts
are new and none of my posts are tagged anymore. I always tag my posts
as high priority just so they show up red and are easy to spot in a long
thread when I'm looking at replies.

The other irritation is posts that get stuck. I have my groups, view,
threads, threads with unread. When I mark all read, then nothing should
show, and that's usually the case. Sometimes you will get a thread
(usually one I have no interest in at all) that will get stuck.
Everything is read, but it's always there visable. You can't do
anything to make it go away other than to hit K and ignore the thread
and then it goes away.

Thanks! It's irritating because TB 2 did not have this "feature".

Agreed, and I saw that with TB 2 as well. Have you seen a bug for that one?

Nope. The "stuck" thread issue is a carry over from TB2, and 1.

Re: Anyone here running Thunderbird 3?

That and loading a specific forum can cause it to hang. Switched to
XanaNews until it is fixed...
