But Linux vendor Red Hat tested the security fixes and found they slowed down highly cached random memory with buffered input/output online transaction processing database workloads by between eight and 19 percent.

Significant. 😞 I'm afraid it's something we'll all have to live with for a
while.

We've left that route many many many years ago and replaced it with "we
have realy no idee what we're doing now and how or if it works, but
let's start something new and make sure to add some more code.

If only it was that easy. It will take a while for there to be new
systems to have the fixes in them, all assuming they are the final
fixes.

If you're still using Windows 7, be aware it doesn't run on the latest
generations of Intel processors. (Gen 7 & 8, I believe)

I have a laptop with Win7 on an i7 processor. Why wouldn't it run if it's 64
bit?

That 64 isn't necessarily the same as the new 64

"in spite of the fact that these versions of Windows run quite happily on
Skylake processors, Microsoft is discontinuing support for these versions of
Windows on Skylake "

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. That makes sense. It's not really the
architecture's fault, it's MS not wanting to support it. Not a bad call. One
of these day's my work laptop won't be Win7 then. LOL! I really don't mind
Win7. It works great. I have 10 on my other machines though and like it too.
