Auto waraanty phone spam

I have a phone we just have for testing and the only calls it gets are the
stupid auto warranty spam calls. What are you doing about yours if you get
them?

I keep pushing "1" to speak to a representative and then they ask the make
and model of my car. I say, "You called me saying it expired, so why don't
you know the make and model?"

Re: Auto waraanty phone spam

Oh....it's a cell, and the numbers change.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23147777/

"Even worse, these sales calls are on her cell phone, a number she considers
so private only family and a few friends have it. Federal regulations
prohibit sales calls like these to cell phones."

Yeah, I get those too -- on each of our phones -- makes you want to pay
them with a winning Nigerian lottery ticket -- and forward the identity
of the calling company to a Nigerian bank.

Yup, I've said almost that exact same thing. As soon as I started asking information about their company (so I could report them for violating Do Not Call laws), they hung up on me.

Yup...same thing here. I ask to be transferred to a manager and they say
OK then hang up. I really wish my phone had a "punch the caller in the
face" button.

Same here, phones are on do not call list and they previously left a
bunch of automated messages on the voicemail. One day I happened to be
around and answered the phone and pressed 1. Guy quickly answers and
asks what kind of car I own. I reply that he called me and since we have
a lot of cars (not really) and he already knew which warranty was
expiring it would be easier if he told me. I then asked where he was
calling from and he said "the corporate office" when I asked where it
was he said he didn't know. When I asked him how how got there if he
didn't know where it was he hung up.

Re: Auto waraanty phone spam

One of them gave the name of the company...but I think he was fibbing. The
company he named had a good reputation.

I get those on my cell phone (started about 1.5 years before the
warranty expired).

Even better:

Last week (1 year after warranty HAS expired), I got a call on my OnStar
in the car!!!!

Not only have I NEVER given that # out (which means GM or OnStar has
been giving those numbers to the telemarketers) but you CANNOT "push 1"
or anything with OnStar (there's no phone).

Grrrrrr

Lets just say that most telemarketers are less than reputable. It is
possible no one gave your number out. A friend who got thrown under the
bus during a downsizing worked at a telemarketer for a while as some
sort of shift manager. One day the sleazy owner had decided to
sequentially call phone blocks assigned to cellcos. Needless to say they
got a lot of very annoyed responses.

Kgroneman,

That's what outsourced Dell support does, now. I think they've been
told if they have to transfer a call to a manager, that their pay or
promotion will be decreased or something. I was hung up on by no less
than three Dell India support people. I don't own anything from Dell,
but I deal with a company that does. I'll certainly never buy Dell
after experiencing their support. : )
