BES server

Was there ever a BES server offered with GW as a bundle, or a 5-client intro or
anything? I seem to remember this, but can't find anything about it. Anyone
remember?

Yup. There was a Free 5-user BES bundled with GW maintenance, with GW
6.5 (and RIM had an Express server - also 5-user free with GW 7). But
they don't any more.

Re: BES server

Yes and they stopped the promo. It's a "QuickStart" version...meaning
somewhat crippled.

No, not crippled at all. It just meant you got a limited number of
licenses for free so that you could quickly start running the software.

At least here in Germany, mobile phone providers can help a lot with
this. They sell BES licenses as well as RIM devices and after a short
negotiation on the phone you'll usually get some licenses for free.
Maybe the size of your site plays a role, of course.

Here in the US many people have had great luck with Verizon giving away a
20-user version of BES. Heck it's not uncommon for Verizon to even give
away the Blackberries themselves!

Re: BES server

Yeah, I met with verizon yesterday and they were talking about that. They said
they mainly give away or promo BPS, (and only BES with very large customers).
Unfortunately, I was told GW only works with BES, and not BPS. We're only gonna
have maybe 10 devices, and I can't see spending $3k+ for the server software
and 20 CALs to start off (when gms is free)

Big time. I've got three Blackberrys here, so it was really a selling
point for going with GroupWise at the time.

Hmm... we're not all that large, maybe around 15 or so lines, yet we
would have qualified for a free BES (not BPS) promotion last year.

Was there a page that linked to that one? Or did you just find it via a
Google search?
