What about the class action suit against Dell at the moment for
'knowingly' selling faulty computers?
On a more personal note, I know of too many people that have had faulty
Dells or have had Dells that are poorly designed leading to component
failure; sure, consumer line, but still - when you get computers that
are DOA...
I'd need to see a change in philosophy and upper management before I
would consider recommending a Dell.

Re: HP or Dell?
Reminds me of IBM when they were still selling us new PC's, knowing they had
bad capacitors:
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1045752/ibms-capacitors-are-dodgy-too-but-its-hushed-up
Oh, and IBM didn't even bother to tell us about the capacitor problem until
we had a few hundred PC's fail just outside their warranty. I feel sorry
for Chris who says he will be using a lot more IBM in the near future.

The HPs we had (DC7600s?) with bad capacitors in them - making the
computer 'squeal' when you moved things like windows around.
Logged the issue with our somewhat incredilous supplier, they logged it
with HP, HP turned around and said yes, they were aware of a batch
exhibiting the issue and arranged for 3 or 4 of the suppliers techs to
come on site on a weekend or after hours at-least at no charge (the
warranty was only their standard 3/3/3 so they could have refused to do
it outside of working hours) to swap out the motherboards of the 15
machines (of 20) - they even offered to do the reinstallation of the
software too...

I know I'm kind of out of it, but still help the old office some. For
them, since they are major purchasers of Dell, Dell has been nothing but
golden for them.
Example, they ordered a server on a Monday that they didn't need for two
weeks. They got the PO, yeah, will be there in two weeks. Nope, showed
up Friday. From what I see/hear, Dell is treating them very well with
support.
Granted, they do buy a lot, but they're much happier with Dell now than HP.

Hardware wise I seriously doubt that Dell is any worse than HP in the
business line of computers. You would be hard press to find a software
vendor that didn't support both. I'm sure big accounts get special
treatment from both companies.
So here is the reasons I choose HP over Dell:
1. I can get a replacement part by simply chatting with tech support
online. No calling or fussing with them. (maybe dell can do this as
well, but I don't have any dell stuff to try that way)
2. HP products have been rock solid in my experience so far.
3. Up till now HP has always been a bit cheaper in price for the things
I order. (I say up till now because I did a server comparison yesterday
and the dell server was a few pennies cheaper)
4. I like standardizing on one brand. I normally order everything from
CDW as well. Oddly enough most of the time, with some finagling, I can
get them to beat HP direct prices.
5. I don't have a fifth reason. Just wanted to keep you reading.
