Have a Cow

So I got this magazine in the mail the other day and was a bit confused/disturbed.

It wanted me to buy a cow.
A heifer, actually

and you could also buy goats and ducks and things.

Apparently it's "legit":

It is, we have been known to give donations through them many times over
the years.

Re: Have a Cow

For a second I was disturbed because I was like, I can buy a cow for food? And ducks and things?

And then it seemed you can send portions of animals to other people in other countries and things.

I would be more than happy to send Squirrels and Chipmunks to others. Maybe a Possum or two.

I've never had chipmunk, but squirrel is ok, possum not so much, and
groundhog is kind of tough.

Yep, the students here are really into it. But I don't want to buy a
heifer for someone unless they really know how to take care of one.

hehe

Duck. It's what's for dinner.

When we were little, my father rented out a place to the local hair salon lady. Her dogs got into her duck pen and a few were mangled. So she gave them to my dad. But one wasn't dead, it was like lame (broken leg or something). So he had it in a box (like a shoebox) until he could come up and finish it.

My sister found the duck, dressed it in doll clothes and fed it crackers.
And named it.

Buddy.

Needless to say there was some crying when it was found out that Buddy "had to go" to duck heaven (and then into our tummies).

I was older than my sister, so I knew by then about where food came from. So I didn't cry (although apparently when I was smaller, I cried when my pet worm got dried out by the sun).

Its a charity well known for most of the donations going to the actual
cause and not gazillion dollar staff etc. Also it is just a great idea.
Teach a man to fish... We have donated a number of times.

Education is really one of the key points of this charity. They just
don't say "here is your cow (or other animal)" as has been done by other
charities. They provide education in how to care for the animal and how
to use it to provide for the person or family.

Re: Have a Cow

If you hadn't bought all those sheep, John would still be here and not off
in some third world country with his harem.

You should have been arressted for contributing to the delinquency of the
sheep if nothing else.
