Hearing aids?

I have a hearing aid assessment a week from tomorrow. After the
testing, the audiology lady told me exactly what I already knew, that
some people mumble, that hearing anything in groups of people (like
meetings) is nigh on impossible and that talking to me when I can't see
you is iffy.

I blame Albury.

Honestly, I was quite surprised at the results of the testing as I am
the guy that covers his ears when the ambulance goes by, never plays my
music real loud and don't ever have the TV turned up to crescendo
level. I have shot off a round of anything in 30 years. And contrary to
wife's belief, my hearing isn't *that* selective.

Re: Hearing aids?

A guy goes to his doctor and says, "Doc, I think my wife is losing her hearing. What should I do?" The doctor says, "You can test it out by standing 15 feet away and asking her what's for dinner. If she doesn't reply, then move up to 10 feet and repeat the question. If there's still no reply, move to 5 feet away and ask her again. You should be able to determine if she's really losing her hearing."

The guy goes home and that night, he stands 15 feet away and asks his wife, "Honey, what's for dinner?" He hears no reply, so he moves up to 10 feet away. He repeats the question, and still hears no reply. He moves up to 5 feet away, and repeats "Honey, what's for dinner?"

His wife turns to him and says, "For the 3rd time, it's chicken!"

They sent me home with a "Helpful Hints for Better Hearing" and one of
the first items was "If someone tries to talk to you from another room
frequently, ask them to not do so" Somehow I don't think that will go
over that well with wifey. -g-

Re: Hearing aids?

Yep, selective it is, at least according to Gail, who can't understand why I
can't hear what she's saying in a normal tone of voice in the kitchen....
(of course, I'm in the office three rooms away with 7 servers, three
workstations, four laptops, the TV, and usually four kids between me and
she......)

Re: Hearing aids?

I have the same problems. I blame my ear infections. But I don't have the
$$$ for hearing aids, so y'all just have to yell at me. 🙂

Huh? 😉

(In all seriousness, I've had a bit of a problem with a lot of background
noise for some time; it's one reason I don't like being in crowded
places, I can't easily handle a conversation with all the background
noise)

That's what my doctor said. At least, I think it was my doctor. Now you
mention it, I'm not sure who was talking, but it's what they said. I
think.

My family events have always been like four people and six
conversations all at the same time. That don't work for me any more.
