LinkedIn actually usefull?

LinkedIn
I had an excellent co-worker refer me a few years ago so I signed up then.
My account has been stagnant for years. Should I beef it up?
It looks like it might actually have some real use now. Anyone been head
hunted from it?
Carp, Good, Fdisk?

I need to update my entry and add some details but even without that in
the last year I've been contacted by 3-4 people asking whether I'd be
interested in other positions.

Some people seem to add anyone and everyone as contacts whereas I prefer
to have an actual connection - friend, colleague, fellow NKP/TTP/NCCI,
actual contact, etc. I find although I put my LinkedIn URL at the
bottom of emails that others on LinkedIn don't see/use that so I then
send a connect request - I was shy at first but now I'm not (they either
accept or they don't!).

I guess having more contacts helps you be more visible which may then
lead to job enquiries.

Guess I should also say that you (or anyone else who is a Novell
Community Chat Irregular) are welcome to join the NCCI group on LinkedIn
- see http://www.linkedin.com/groupRegistration?gid=98248

Not really for a professional head hunter... though there are a
gazillion recruiter shills that you can be "friends" with on it.

It's really just so the people who you know and the people who your
friends know, etc. can know a bit about you... and that establishes a
network potentially to pull head count from.

Re: LinkedIn actually usefull?

I've gotten some calls from it, but I need to update the profile again.

It certainly doesn't hurt and it's kind of nice to be able to post a note
that you're looking for a job...at least I get leads from my network that
way.

I am not a good networker - everyone in my linked in I either work
with/for or is the recruiter who got me this gig in the first place 🙂

Re: LinkedIn actually usefull?

We had a recently hired coworker who had a LinkedIn page. From the day they
started, they were getting calls from headhunters. After 9 months (yes,
management let it go on that long), they finally got another job. At least
we no longer have to hear their annoying ringtones going off incessantly..
