<rant>
What is it with this site and having to log in?! I understand that you need to log in before you post/reply or mess with your own profile - but every time I link to this site from Google (or any search engine) I get hit with the with a forum home page. The only time it takes me directly to the link is if I already have a session open in another window/tab??? (which I assume it cookie related)

What would happen if I didn't happen to have a login? Bad Novell Bad!! :mad:

Also it has happened to me a few times, where I am logged into the Novell site (say NCC) and I check the forums and I need to login again. Or even worse, I need to log out of the Novell site to log into the Novell Forum site?? Left hand not talking to the Right? :confused:
</rant>

Just my two cents! (which now a days is my daily wage!)

Re: Login!!

I have it happen randomly as well. Sometimes I can go an enitre day with only one login (provided I don't timeout). Other times, I click a post, I have to login. Less than a minute later, click another post, get prompted to login again.

Re: Login!!

robert w brandt,

Welcome to NCC, however I have to score your rant.

Your rant was less than horrid. My 4 year old can raNt better than you.
The :mad: and :confused: tags were they smiles from the web forums? If
so BAD BAD Robert. Most (ab)normal people use a NNTP client. So don't
use smiles. With that said. Your rant did not show any emotion, have any
masked words, or show harm towards small bushy animals or another humoniod.

You're final score is -10 try better next time.

Jay.

Re: Login!!

If you think that's bad, Novell was trying to force logins for their
knowledgebase a few weeks ago. Apparently that's delayed indefinitely
(hopefully forever).

Re: Login!!

Yeah, I saw that about the KB. Although in that sense, I don't mind terribly (almost every other forum I've been on requires a login for searching to be accomplished without having to type in that stupid letter/number code that you can't even read).

Although it's still better than Oracle or Hummingbird. Not only do you need a login, you have to have a paid support contract to even search their KB.

I have to agree. No spit, no misspellings, no fury.
Absolutely no chance of being deleted or resulting in deployment of
the thwack-o-matic. For penance I suggest self flogging with duck feathers.

Re: Login!!

What you see is not an intention of Novell to force people to login, but
rather a guinuine bug in the custom code written by Novell to integrate
the forums with Novell's customer login. The problem is known for a long
time already, but so far, Novell hasn't given the issue enough priority to
put someone on it to fix it.
I think this is a case where there is not enough awareness at Novell that
this bug does actually affect customers. Therefore, I encourage evryone
who experiences the bug to immediately send a feedback to Novell using the
web feedback option on the forum interface. When enough customers complain
about it, Novell might see that it is worthwhile allocating resources to
fix this annoying problem.
