Loud Dl385 G2

Any ideas about why my HP is so loud? It's at a satellite office and he's
sending me a pic of the front. IML doesn't show any problems.

TIA

I've got a dl320s that's the loudest thing I've ever heard. Too many dad
gum fans in there.

Fans might be spinning up if the location of the server is getting warm.
That wouldn't cause anything to light up on the front of the server. If
it's got iLO2 you might be able to get some environmental info from it.

Does it have the Insight Management Agents loaded? Some of the
Proliants will spin their fans at full noise until the management
agents load.

Not sure about the HP's, but on our IBM's with dual power-supplies, if one
PSU is bad or not plugged-in, then the other PSU has to work harder and the
fans start screaming.

Perhaps not if it just suddenly started happening, unless someone
suddenly unloaded the agents. If it's a sudden thing with no software
config changes, it's more likely that heat is causing the fans to spin
at faster RPMs.

Re: Loud Dl385 G2

I wondered that too. I suppose IML would have shown me that though.

Thanks!

Re: Loud Dl385 G2

Wouldn't they load if I did CPQIML?

(As a relevant aside, they weren't loaded until I loaded them today.)
Wonder if it got quiter after that?

Thanks!

Not sure. Never really looked closely at which command does it.

After loading the command I can't hear them, HTH 😄

I don't think so... I think that's able to read the integrated
management log without having all the agents loaded.
