Novell Blogs - Closing user comments?

Ok, the purpose of many of Novell's official blogs are to offer updates of
what's happening at Novell and updates on product developments. Part of
this is also registered user comments of such (Someone correct me if I'm
wrong).

Then why are some blog articles have had comments turned off after receiving
negative comments?

It's not that any of the authors are replying to the comments to offer
insight but rather more like a door slamming in an argument with your
girlfriend!!

Novell just shuts the comments off and slams the door shut. There are
posting here on the support forums of user's voicing their frustrations with
hopes that Novell is listening and then on Novell's website, they ask for
user comments and shut it down when it's not what Novell what's to hear!!
If Novell would just listen a little more to it's users, we could make
progress rather than two steps forward and three steps back.

Hey Michael Rae,

>Then why are some blog articles have had comments turned off

Which blog specifically are you referring to. I'm not aware of any
*current* blog that has had comments turned off. It doens't mean there
isn't any, just that I don't know about it. Let me know which one you
are referring to and I'll check into it.

Michael, you still there?

I am. I'd like to help if this is more than just a drive-by complaint.

Re: Novell Blogs - Closing user comments?

Still here, this was on Dean Lythgoe's latest update regarding Mobility. It
was rather odd and perhaps is was just Novell's site messing up but even
with being logged into Novell, the only option was to

http://www.novell.com/communities/node/11538/groupwise-mobility-schedule-update

a.. "Be the first to comment! To leave a comment you need to Login or
Register"

Now today, it appears to work but what struck me as wrong was that I could
navigate to other articles yesterday and there was a "reply" button active
were on his there was not, just the option to login or register even when I
was logged in.

No intent to be a drive by whiner, I just hate the direction that Novell is
taking GroupWise and without expressing such to Novell, it's pointless but
as they say, I'm preaching to the choir but the majority of GW users don't
care about Suger CRM and all the cute plugins promised for Mobility, they
want their email to work on mobile devices like it does for Microsoft
Exchange.

I just went to this website and the "Be the first to comment..." link
appears to only by available as a reply to other replies. I saw no
way to reply directly to Dean's post unless I logged in.

Re: Novell Blogs - Closing user comments?

I'll ask the Cool Solutions folks what the problem is. Just to be
clear, there is NO conspiracy to stop people from commenting on the
blogs.

Re: Novell Blogs - Closing user comments?

But what if there is a conspiracy to stop people from commenting on
commenting on how they can't comment about the comments?

🙂

Hey Ken,

I've seen this sometimes to when following links to blogs.
Going back to the blog root and opening the article again then does reveal the comments..

Not a consistent thing though... but does seem to have to with how the comment bit is placed within the blog.

Cheers,
Willem

Simply start commenting on if there is a conspiracy to stop people from commenting on commenting on how they can't comment about the comments?
