"But nobody wants to use a Linux distro to host Linux and Windows images."

Ummm. I do, and I'm sure anyone not using 'supported' hardware does.
Novell + Citrix...I don't see it. MS + Citrix...well that's pretty much
already been done before. I look for Novell to come out with some more
obscure takeover, deal or solution than a Citrix play.

It's a navive article from an ignorant person... but some points are
valid.

The idea is that Red Hat has kvm, which of course, they got by
acquisition, BUT it's the virtualization engine that is INCLUDED in the
kernel (all kernels, even the SUSE ones)....

So... SUSE doesn't have ANYTHING. But the world wants non-Linux based
virtualization solutions (author not realizing that there is some kind
of OS on any of those so-called standalone hypervisors)... but author
seems to imply Red Hat has this... and they do not (at least not like
the author believes.. which again, is very ignorant).

So, Citrix has a "standalone" hypervisor product, SUSE uses Xen, so
therefore.... ta da!... Novell will sell Citrix's hypervisor for them
(huh?).

It's more of a blog article.... I'd put as much value in it as anyone
elses blog...

Why not? Makes total sense to me unless there's another virtualization
card up Novell's sleeve.

Re: Novell and Citrix = XEN love?

Yeah, I disagreed with the "not using linux to run linux" premise, mainly because of the XEN para-virtualization vs. vmware (I've not tested against vsphere 4). But disk access is significantly faster, IMO on XEN para-virutalized with SLES 10 SP2/OES2 SP1 than it is on para-virtualized vmware ESX 3.5i

However, I do think it would be nice/good if the Citrix management tools could be used for XEN on SLES rather than the "low-end" one that you have to use at the server itself.

But we'll see what happens. Could be interesting.
