Online Activation for XP?

Is this still supposed to work <g>? I am trying to create a new VM on my
laptop (that will be moved to the kids' PC), and the "online activation"
always fails. Going through a proxy server - could that be it?

Thanks.

Re: Online Activation for XP?

Depends on the type of XP, I think. XP Pro still worked for me last
time I tried, but not Home (had to phone it in and read all the numbers
to a machine that read numbers back to me).

Dunno, always used the volume license one that doesn't need to be activated. 🙂

Re: Online Activation for XP?

Same here -- but the activation should still work, Microsoft is still
allowing XP Professional to be sold for folks doing installs.

Re: Online Activation for XP?

I had a similar problem. I created a VM from my HP desktop and started it
up on my ESXi server. The Windows installation determined that the hardware
had changed and wanted to re-activate. When I tried to Activate it online,
it failed. So I called MS.

They said that if the software was from an OEM, then I cannot do this
because the key or whatever MS uses to track this stuff was only for the HP
OEM hardware.
