Post Editing After Submission

Is there a way I can edit a post once it is submitted? I know there are some other forum sites on the Internet that look similar to Novell Forums, and they allow editing of a submitted post within the first 5 min or so.

Could something like that be available on this site?

Re: Post Editing After Submission

Celsolima,

no, it's not possible, because we use NNTP as well as the web for
posting, and the NNTP posts cannot be edited. It's nature's was of
telling you to read what you type before hitting "send"... 🙂

The problem is that the forums are both accessible through the web and
through NNTP. This is because a number of power users prefer to use NNTP.
Now while editing messages in the web is simple, the NNTP protocol is more
like email and doesn't allow you to edit a message once you have sent it.
If editing messages (which is technically possible) would be enabled for
the web forums, this would lead to a lot of confusion as NNTP messages
would continue to reflect the old unedited message and replies to those
messages would be confusing as they would not refer to the changed content
of the messages visible on the web. For this reason, editing of messages
has been disabled.

Re: Post Editing After Submission

You are correct.

Posts may be cancelled if they were originally sent through a NNTP
(Newsgroup) submission rather than the newer web interface.

For example, if you are using Microsoft Outlook Express, you may highlight
your post, then select Message/ Cancel Message.

For those who wish to try this at home, set up a newsgroup account by
selecting
Tools/ Accounts/ Add/ News...

Use "forums.novell.com" as the News Account. No log on, Account Name, or
Password is necessary, and in fact, populating these fields will prevent it
from working.

Subscribe to the "novell.community.chat" newsgroup, and your postings will
now appear.

The drawback, of course, is that your posts appear to the web interface as
anonymous postings. However, the name shows correctly under NNTP and Google
Groups.

Re: Post Editing After Submission

An easy work around: Post a reply to your original message with
updated information that was left out of, or a mistake in the original
