If that's all the info about it that's shared, that's ok. <G>

Well, as long as you do it only in the privacy of ... wherever you're going

You know you're in trouble when you're having a discussion and someone
proclaims..."The fact of the matter is..." like all of a sudden a bolt from
the heavens has made them authority.

Even so are their 'facts' not open for discussion.
Facts can take on different meanings based on the 'spin' in which they
are presented. Facts and statistics don't often tell the whole story.
There are throughout history, 'facts' that have been later proven to be
wrong.

Re: Silence

G:

A fact is something that really isn't open much to interpretation,
otherwise it isn't a fact, it's a supposition or something being
surmised, or any other number of non-fact things, like an
hypothesis...something someone thinks might be correct, but isn't yet
proven.

For instance, I got out of bed this morning. That's a fact. It
doesn't matter what spin you put on it, the plain fact is that I got
out of bed this morning. I'm an authority on the "Did Susan get out of
bed this morning?" question or discussion. I'm not only an authority,
I'm the final authority. If I step into a discussion about whether
Susan got out of bed this morning and say, "The fact of the matter is
that she did," I'm correct. While someone could argue with me about
whether or not I got out of bed that morning, they would be wrong to do
so, because I got out of bed this morning. That's a fact.

So, while there are many things in life that can be argued, facts
aren't open to much interpretation. I think people use the word "fact"
incorrectly many times, when they mean something else. I think many
people declare things as fact that aren't.

What's an example of a fact that has been proven later to be wrong?
I'm going to guess it wasn't a fact in the first place, but just
someone declaring something as a fact who really was in no position to
know, or who wanted it to be a fact, when it wasn't, really. : )

Re: Silence

Susan,

bud did you get out of bed? Maybe you pushed the rest of the universe
away, so the bed got away from you?

I could use some furniture that moves itself. It would save me a lot of
work.

At work? Been there, done that, on two different occasions.

First one, I realized they were right: I was just throwing in my
personal opinion without knowing enough about the topic.

Second one, I was really really p*****. I had a valid opinion, a
possible solution, it's just that what I said didn't fit the so called
"strategy". I started to answer mails with "Sorry, not my area of
expertise." or "I'm obviously not affected." and I rejected invitations
to meetings if I didn't feel directly involved. That was fun, and it
didn't take long until they started missing me desperately 🙂
