Software Installation and Removal

I am new to Linux. I installed SuSe 9.2 on my desktop computer and I really enjoy this operating system (better than Microsoft). I have observed that there are certain softwares that are outdated and I would like to install the latest. Examples of these include open office 1.1 and others. How to do I install and remove softwares from Suse 9.2? I have used Yast and installed certain patches and applications (from the CDs that came with the operating system) but I do not know how to remove them manually. Your help is greatly appreciated.

SUSE 9.2 is a really, really old version. The latest is openSUSE 11.1
which was recently released. You can get more info on openSUSE here.
