VMWare Server 2.0, anyone using it?

We have used GSX/Server 1.0 with much success. Not quite sure about Server
2.0 yet. The web interface is nice, but it's a bit more bloated than v1.

We don't have a huge # of VM's, so we're looking at v2.0 rather than ESX,
ESXi, vSphereical or whatever they call it this quarter...

Using Server 2.0 in our Phoenix office on a Proliant ML350 G5. Host OS
is OES2 SP1, running a single guest of W2K3.

For our main production environment we use ESX 3.5. I might recommend
just plain server in a very small environment, but I wouldn't do a ton of
production stuff with it.

Same here. We run 1.x and have a few clients on 1.x as well. Looking at ESX
now that it is free.

Well... ESXi is free. You still have to pay for ESX. 🙂

Re: VMWare Server 2.0, anyone using it?

I upgraded my desktop install to 2 and I hate the web
interface/performance. I get quite a few errors. Much prefer the old
client program.

I ran a test install of it at one time. Didn't much care for the web
interface either.

I'd stick with v1 or go to ESXi. ESXi is a pain if you have custom hardware
though. v2 is a mess.

It's not *that* bad.

Hasn't been in my experience, both in a test/dev environment as well as
in production.

But you get an extra i for free, so that's obviously a better deal.

Absolutely abysmal performance compared to previous iterations.
The web interface is a total dog, requires an excessive amount
of clicks to get things done, that is when it isn't timing out.
Rubbish.
